Inspired by variety shows like: The Carol Burnett Show, You Can’t Do That On Television, In Living Color and Saturday Night Live, my passion for the entertainment industry was ignited!

I remember the first time I decided to build a set. I was wide-awake in my bedroom late at night after watching an episode of In Living Color. My mind was whirling in a hundred different directions––searching for a creative outlet.  Influenced by a sketch that I’d seen Jim Carrey performer earlier in the evening, I was eager to release my own inner entertainer.

Without a firm plan, I raided our linen closet for the largest sheets and blankets I could find.  I stapled the sheets to the ceiling in my bedroom to create a soundstage, smaller, but similar to those I’d seen at Universal Studios; I snuck into the living room and “borrowed” the family camcorder that (in my opinion) had not been used to its full potential.  Without a script or any idea of a concept, I curated outfits from my wardrobe into ridiculous costumes, propped the camera up on its tripod, pressed record and began improvising––which sparked my journey as a performer and storyteller.  Whether acting, directing, dancing, writing, choreographing, or producing, I love the business of entertaining!

With his razor sharp tongue and quick witted edge Matthew ignites hilarious banter with a sassy social styling that only a sharp dressed Gen-Y hipster can provide. He wrote, directed, and starred in his first production when he was 7 years old and has been entertaining family members (and audiences) ever since!

After attending the prestigious Orange County High School of the Arts, Matthew continued his professional career as a principal dancer for the world-renowned company, Giordano Dance Chicago. Highlighted credits include: Cold Case, Jackass Number Two, The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, Hansel & Gretel at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Earth to America with Jason Alexander, Broadway Cares with Rosie O’Donnell, Disney XD’s Kickin’ It, Bunheads, he appears along side Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler in the Netflix original series Wet Hot American Summer, with Adam Levine on Broad City, and most recently you can catch Matthew on season two of the breakout show Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

Matthew is the co- founder of A Group Production, LLC where he serves as executive producer; and has performed in, choreographed, directed or produced over 40 projects between Broadway, Film and Television.

As a choreographer Shaffer’s work has been performed by A-Lister’s like Ben Stiller, Rachel Platten (Fight Song), and Rebel Wilson. He has worked as a master teacher for over fourteen years at leading performing arts conservatories and conventions across the United States and Europe including the Broadway Dance Center and Giordano Dance Center.
